Job Description

General Overview

Under the direction of the director of radiation therapy services and lead therapist, the staff therapist willingly accepts supervision and is responsible for delivering quality radiation therapy treatment as prescribed by the radiation oncologist.

Responsibilities

1. Masters basic and routine radiation treatment related tasks.

Patient chart components

Functionality and proper use of immobilization equipment

Radiation treatment techniques

Communication with treatment team including physicians, nurses, physics staff, nutritionists, social worker, therapist and administrative staff

2. Is responsible for delivering quality radiation therapy treatment.

Properly identifies patient using two forms of ID

Demonstrates proficiency when operating linear accelerators and record and verify software following a standard operating procedure

Performs daily warm up procedures for assigned treatment unit

Positions, immobilizes, and aligns patients according to the treatment plan

Administers radiation therapy treatment accurately and safely

Accurately documents all treatment delivery information

Appropriately charges patient using the R&V software

Remains knowledgeable of all current treatment set-up protocols

Reports equipment failure to appropriate staff

Maintains cleanliness of work area and disinfects equipment

3. Understands and utilizes a quality assurance program to encompass all aspects of treatment delivery and quality patient care.

Attends and participates in regularly scheduled therapist staff meeting and new patient conference

Understands what constitutes a recordable Safety Event and how properly to report

Obtains continuing education units in order to keep therapist licensure active

Familiar with the National Patient Safety Goals

4. Demonstrates cooperation and is responsive to all staff members.

Models appropriate behavior: courteous, respectful, constructively assertive and effectively listens

5. May be asked to provide guidance and/or participate in the clinical instruction of radiation therapy students.

6. Is an active member of professional organizations.

7. Other duties as assigned.
