Job Description

This supervised position will allow for a college student who is seeking a career in the power industry to apply as well as enhance their knowledge with regard to all aspects power plant engineering and operation. This position will require the individual to work a normal day shift. Limited overtime work (nights and weekends) may be required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assist Plant shift operations including local starting and stopping of equipment. Assist in Maintaining shift operating logs and records when required. Read and record gauges and meters when required. Assist with mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks, inspections, and troubleshooting while under direct supervision by a qualified Calpine Employee. Assist in development of standard operating procedures. Assist with plant chemistry analysis, including maintaining logs and records. Assist with the requisition of spare parts inventory for plant equipment. Assist with plant EHS administrative tasks including preparing reports for submittal to regulatory agencies while under direct supervision of Calpine employees. Participation in the site safety committee and safety tailboard processes. Assist with updating and organization of plant technical documents including CAD drawings. Perform other duties as assigned while under the direct supervision of a Calpine employee. Report to Plant Engineer and take day-to-day instructions, both written and verbal, from the Plant Operator A, Plant Manager, Operations Manager, Maintenance Manager and Plant Engineer. Completion of at least 30 credits towards graduation Willingness to work outdoors, in field locations, in a *hands on* environment A good comprehension of basic engineering practices through work experience or college courses Must have strong computer skills especially in the use of spreadsheet and word processing programs Good verbal and written communication skills are essential Must be flexible and able to work harmoniously with others Good problem solving and analytical ability Good organization skills and attention to details are essential Preferred Experience - Previous work experience, including internships Exposure to maintenance, construction, or inspection of large plant facilities (petrochemical, refining, or power). Ability to read and understand construction drawings and P & IDs. Computer Assisted Drafting (CAD) experience is desired. Calpine is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer
