JOB DESCRIPTIONAPPLY Position Overview
The Medicinal Chemistry department invites qualified candidates to submit applications for the position of postdoctoral researcher. These will be reviewed by individual faculty members and placed in a pool for consideration for one-year research positions in medicinal chemistry (with the possibility of renewal for one or more additional years).
Faculty in the department carry out research in medicinal chemistry as broadly defined, including the fields of drug design, metabolism, enzymology, synthesis, and protein chemistry. Specific information about the research activities in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry can be obtained at our website, www.medchem.ku.edu All faculty members in the department may serve as supervisors, depending on the availability of positions and funding. A Ph.D. and research training in medicinal chemistry, organic chemistry, chemical biology, biochemistry, molecular biology or a closely related field is required. Preferred candidates will also have a record of research accomplishments as reflected in publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific meetings.
70% Perform laboratory experiments in medicinal chemistry; carry out library work and computer searches for literature relative to research topic; assist in the preparation and submission of all manuscripts and publications related to research.
10% Laboratory Maintenance & Safety: help in the cleaning, organization, and maintenance of the laboratory and equipment contained therein; be knowledgeable and up-to-date with laboratory safety protocols and employ them in the course of all work.
10% Recordkeeping: keep detailed notes and records pertaining to all research work.
10% Other duties to include attending and participation in scientific group meetings, departmental seminars, and problem sessions; assist in the mentorship and training of graduate students.
Ph.D. and research training in medicinal chemistry, organic chemistry, chemical biology, biochemistry, molecular biology or a closely related field.
NOTE: To be appointed at the Postdoctoral Researcher title, it is necessary to have the PhD in hand. Appointments made without a diploma or certified transcript indicating an earned doctorate are conditional hires and are appointed on an acting basis not to exceed six months. Upon verification of degree the appointment will be extended to its full duration.
A record of research accomplishment as reflected in publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific meetings.
