Responsibilities
GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
General Summary
The BWH Department of Medicines (DOM) Quality Program is responsible for engaging the departments clinical divisions in quality improvement. Our work includes facilitating the identification, evaluation and improvement of targeted clinical conditions and processes. The Quality Specialist will work with the Quality Program Manager on the operational aspects for the quality improvement projects for all clinical divisions. This position requires an individual who can successfully manage multiple projects, work independently and maintain attention to detail as well as an overview of the big picture.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
General
1. Independently evaluates individual records and aggregate data in LMRs Report Central to determine if data reports are accurate and meet written specifications. Quality checks and analysis of data will be conducted for multiple metrics for 11 divisions.
2. Effective summarizes and communicates errors in reports (found via #1) to IS to ensure discrepancies between metric specifications and data reports are corrected.
3. Updates and manages metric specifications to reflect changes resulting from activities in #1 and #2, or based on changes requested by the divisions
4. Develops data for website, and ensures the Quality Program Pages are up-to-date.
5. Creates quality reports for divisions in approved Quality Program format
6. Manages regular, ongoing management of communication of data with divisions
7. Manages regular announcements and correspondences on behalf of the DOM quality program
8. Maintains and coordinates the quality program team calendar to ensure all team members are aware of and prepared for upcoming meetings and presentations
9. Some administrative functions will be required.
10. Deals with projects and data that are highly confidential in nature.
11. Perform other related duties as directed.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor Degree required;
2-5 years relevant work experience in a healthcare-related field, experience in an academic medical center preferred.
Experience in program development in quality measurement and/or improvement or patient safety preferred.
Experience working in large, complex healthcare organization preferred.
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Superior data management and analytic skills.
Superior organizational and interpersonal skills.
Very strong Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Ability to design, develop and present refined spreadsheets, reports, whitepapers and slide presentations.
Confidence and comfort in working in a largely independent role.
Strong project management skills with experience in planning, facilitating and organizing improvement teams.
Extreme degree of professionalism, discretion and confidentiality.
Experience with performance improvement methods, including statistical concepts, applications, and data collection.
Familiarity with medical terminology, diagnosis coding, billing and use of electronic medical records.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an office setting. Attends meetings in and out of the Hospital. Is available for early and late meetings and flexible to meet frequent deadlines.
