The Packaging Strategy Manager will provide leadership and direction for the identification, management, planning, development, and execution of packaging projects to support the global Teleflex packaging strategy. Areas included are new product development, cost improvement initiatives, packaging standards/testing, packaging materials, packaging equipment and technology platform developments/enhancements. This role contains a high level of collaboration among Business Unit Marketing and Research & Development, Global Operations, Strategic Sourcing, Logistics & Distribution, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs and Sterility Assurance.
The Corporate division is the central operating unit of the company setting strategy and policy and providing business development, finance, human resources, information technology, investor relations and legal support to the businesses. Company headquarters are located just outside of Philadelphia in Wayne, PA.
Manage the packaging margin expansion project pipeline. Identify packaging cost improvement ideas and work with the finance lead to determine associated savings. Lead cross-functional teams to outline project feasibility including product sourcing, implementation timing, major project expenses and capital requirements.
Lead identification, planning, management and/or execution of packaging projects that support the packaging strategy, new product development and CIP initiatives across global packaging portfolio. Lead/perform proof of concept activities for feasibility and project vetting.
Create/oversee project charters/plans, feasibility assessments, estimated schedule, costs, business impact and risks. Engage the appropriate departmental leaders to identify deliverables, obstacles and mitigation plans.
Prior to project implementation, assess operational readiness and ensure implementation/start-up risks are clearly identified. Lead resolution of issues and development of contingency plans within the packaging technical/design team and other departments.
Work directly with the packaging technical and design personnel to execute packaging projects.
Partner with Global Commodity Packaging Manager to identify and select packaging vendors, materials and technologies that support the global strategy and cost savings initiatives.
Work with the Sterilization and Logistics & Distribution teams to define and maintain the end-to-end packaging requirements that support the global packaging strategy.
Define program/project key metrics and prioritize projects accordingly for resourcing and implementation.
Lead cross-functional ideation sessions including PTO, site evaluations, customer visits, marketing studies and Kaizen events, establishing business alignement and action plans.
Attend industry tradeshows, seminars and customer events and work with sourcing/key suppliers to identify and define industry trends and opportunities for cost savings, continuous improvement and customer value-add.
Lead/represent the department in recurring packaging new product development, CIP projects and sourcing meetings to ensure alignment and accurate project reporting.
Manage interdependencies between Strategic Business Unit portfolio strategies and Manufacturing/Operations strategies within packaging projects to ensure the most efficient/effective outcome is achieved.
Manage the Morrisville Packaging Lab as required. Act as the on-site main point of contact for the packaging lab to schedule packaging testing (including environmental chamber conditioning), oversee packaging lab testing and results, supervise lab staff, and perform packaging testing (as necessary).
Oversee the Morrisville Packaging Lab Co-Op/Internship program for the lab personnel with packaging technical manager as required. Lead/Coordinate with packaging technical manager/HR for recruiting/on-boarding, personnel training, prioritization of work, technical oversight and Co-Op/Internship program feedback.
Provide other department support as required by immediate supervisor.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
BS in Packaging Discipline or equivalent
5 10 years in packaging related discipline
5+ years in Medical Device or Pharmaceuticals preferred
Project Management experience preferred
Personnel Management experience preferred
TRAVEL REQUIRED: 20 %
