Painting Technician - Fabrication Shop
Seeking machine shop painters/paint technicians who are experienced and knowledgeable on application rates, thicknesses, drying times, safety, handling, mixing, protection, and storage of all paint and powder coating products in order to prepare and paint machine part surfaces for the U.S. Army Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate (NVESD) at Fort Belvoir, VA. Painters must prepare surfaces and apply all types of primers and paints using spraying equipment (including epoxy, polyurethane, lacquers, enamels, thinners, and other military and specialty coatings) to achieve a professional finish and quality to meet the standards of the customer. Candidates must be able to perform sandblasting, taping out and prepping of each project for painting, priming, general painting, and powder-coating. This requires knowledge of mixing painting materials, matching colors, and applying them to projects based on requirements. Additionally, painters will continue to support maintenance and repair activities within NVESD’s painting and powder coating facilities.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Demonstrated knowledge and experience in fabrication painting to include: application rates, thicknesses, drying times, safety, handling, mixing, protection, and storage of all paint and powder coating productsExperience preparing surfaces for painting to include: sandblasting, taping out, and primingProven experience with both manual and automated painting methods/systemsFamiliarity with basic fabrication processes for machine parts and assembliesFamiliarity with hazardous materials handling a plusKnowledge and experience with the use of safety equipment and industry standard safety protocolsAbility to work collaboratively in a fabrication shop team environmentMust be able to obtain a Department of Defense SECRET clearance
