Job Description
Effectiveness Coach " Arizona Teaching Fellows

TNTP strives to end the injustice of educational inequality by providing excellent teachers to the students who need them most and by advancing policies and practices that ensure effective teaching in every classroom. A national nonprofit organization founded by teachers, TNTP is driven by the knowledge that effective teachers have a greater impact on student achievement than any other school factor. In response, TNTP develops customized programs and policy interventions that enable education leaders to find, develop and keep great teachers. Since its inception in 1997, TNTP has recruited or trained approximately 43,000 teachers and worked with more than 200 districts in 31 states - benefiting an estimated 7 million students. Meanwhile, TNTP's acclaimed studies of the policies and practices that affect the quality of the teacher workforce -- most recently including The Widget Effect (2009) and Teacher Evaluation 2.0 (2010) -- have influenced federal education policy and inspired reform efforts across the country.

TNTP is active in more than 25 cities, including 10 of the nation's 15 largest.
We are currently seeking a part-time Effectiveness Coach for the Arizona Teaching Fellows program in Northeast Arizona to lead local instructional programming and observe Fellows in the classroom. The position is available, pending funding, at the end of the school year. There is a strong preference for this individual to work from a home office in the northeast region of Arizona (Sander, Window Rock or Holbrook) or from our Phoenix office. However a flexible location in Arizona is possible for candidates willing to travel on a monthly basis. A relocation bonus may be offered to candidates willing to move for this role.

New Teacher Effectiveness

TNTP s New Teacher Effectiveness group is responsible for recruiting great teachers to teach in high-need schools and subject areas, and for preparing those teachers to be immediately effective in the classroom. TNTP s Teaching Fellows programs streamline the path to teaching for accomplished career changers and recent graduates. In 2011, TNTP will recruit, select and provide pre-service training to outstanding teachers in more than 20 cities and 18 states.

In 9 of those states, TNTP is also approved to recommend teachers for certification through our rigorous, relevant preparation model, which has been shown to produce highly effective teachers. Building on this strong track record, TNTP is pioneering an evaluation program to recommend certification only for teachers who can demonstrate that they are able to advance student learning.

The Program

Since 2007, TNTP has been working with high need districts in Arizona to implement the Arizona Teaching Fellows, a high quality alternate route into the classroom for outstanding career changers from a variety of backgrounds who commit to teach critical shortage subject areas in high-need schools in Phoenix, Yuma, or Northeast Arizona. More than 150 Fellows have already started teaching in Arizona classrooms through this program.

Additionally, in order to facilitate the entry of the highest qualified teaching candidates for hard-to-staff positions and to create an expedited plan for their certification, TNTP is in the process of establishing an alternative certification program called the TNTP Academy. TNTP Academy participants will earn certification by completing TNTP s Teaching for Results seminar series during their first year(s) in the classroom and by completing our Assessment of Classroom Effectiveness (ACE) screen. Our program is distinguished from other alternative route programs by the quality of its pre-service training and professional development program, as well as our focus on making certification decisions based on performance in the classroom and ability to impact stude
