Department: Laurentian Medical Clinic
JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Clinic Manager, the Patient Account Representative is responsible for coding fee slips, verifying diagnosis and procedure coding and monitoring charge entry process. The PAR functions as primary Clinic Business Office patient contact person and as the Clinic referral Coordinator. The PAR also prepares the daily receipt deposit, prepares accounts payable invoices for payment, orders office supplies and monitors supply inventory and provides front-desk coverage and support as needed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High School diploma or GED and/or completion of an accredited two (2)-year health care related program or (see Experience) Experience: Two (2) years of work experience involving customer service. Licensure/Certification/Registration: N/A PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: N/A Experience: Medical office experience, medical coding experience, or internship with St. Luke s Clinic Division. Licensure/Certification/Registration: N/A SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of general office clerical functions. Knowledge of diagnosis and procedure coding and familiarity with diseases and conditions commonly seen in family medicine encounters. Knowledge of insurance referral requirements and practices. Knowledge of computerized office applications. Knowledge of customer relations principles. Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner. Ability to demonstrate empathic, respectful and positive customer relations behaviors, both on the telephone and in person and to present a professional image. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, work independently, demonstrate good judgment, and respond in a pleasant manner to patients and staff. Skill in computer keyboarding. Ability to write legibly, see, hear, read, walk, speak English. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/LIFTING REQUIREMENTS: Ability to bend, sit and lift objects up to fifteen (15) pounds in weight. Ability to work more than eight ( 8) hours but less than twelve (12) hours. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in a normal office environment within a clinic practice setting. Little or no exposure to hazardous or unpleasant working conditions. Part-time As scheduled High school diploma or equivalent is required
