Department Description

The Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) specializes in the care of children with complex congenital cardiac disease. Surgical procedures include repair of congenital heart defects and permanent pacemaker insertion.

Medical interventions include management of acute/chronic heart failure, septic shock, renal and respiratory failure. Critically ill children are cared for with such treatment modalities as mechanical ventilation, inhaled nitric oxide, ventricular assist devices, temporary pacemaker therapy, peritoneal dialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy and acute hemodialysis.

Job Summary

Administratively responsible for ensuring the quality of patient care in the Children s Procedural and Patient Support Units, including Children s Cardiac / Interventional Cath Lab, Children s EP Lab, Children s Cardiac Echo, Children s Pulmonary Function and Children s Cardiac Stress Lab.

Serves as a role model for professional nursing practice. Maintains twenty-four hour line management and responsibility for the administration of personnel, fiscal and material resources.

Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated behaviors.

The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required.

Required Qualifications

* Minimum of one to two years of progressive leadership in a pediatric nursing environment

* BSN

* Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California

* Demonstrates leadership/management skills and excellent interpersonal relationship skills

* Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills

* The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required

Preferred Qualifications

* MS

* Minimum of 3 years of recent experience as a Patient Care Manager or Assistant Patient Care Manager in a complex children s clinical unit

Licensure/Certification

* Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
