JOB DUTIES:
Under the direction of the Program Director of Operation Mend and designated program managers, the incumbent will provide high touch navigation for patients and family members on and off the UCLA Campus as designated by the Operation Mend program. Individual will work independently and with a team to drive and or escort patients and family members to and from the airport, clinical appointments, surgeries, events, and other locations as needed. Individual will be required to drive Medical Center Vehicles and to work as a team to ensure that all transportation and escort needs are met for the Operation Mend Program. Individual will work daily with the Operation Mend program and semi-regularly with patient escort services for UCLA Health to ensure the absolute best in quality navigation and escort services. Individual must be detail oriented and able to anticipate special needs for patients and other passengers. He/she will proactively determine program needs and work with a team to create weekly and monthly schedules. Individual will maintain the highest level of professionalism and keep detailed and accurate records of all activities performed.
Duties and Tasks
Operate a 8-15 passenger van and/or passenger shuttle for transportation of
Patients, family members, and members of the Operation Mend team as needed between the Community Clinics, the Tiverton House, Operation Mend Offices, the Medical Center, the Medical Plaza, and Santa Monica Hospital and LAX.
Responsible for ensuring daily maintenance on all vehicles assigned.
Able to maintain a timed schedule of pick-ups and drop-offs at different locations.
Responsible for following all Departmental and Hospital policies on safety procedures.
Ability to operate a wheelchair lift/passenger van following all guidelines and procedures. Must be able to assist patients with entering and exiting vehicle.
Keep Dispatcher/Supervisor informed of all unusual incidents i.e. vehicle accidents
or hazardous spills.
Able to communicate effectively with all user department personnel.
Flexible schedule required.
Ability to determine program needs and work with a team to create weekly and monthly schedules.
Proactively build relationships with patients and family members and anticipate special needs.
Provides age appropriate assessment and interventions in order to meet the needs of patients and families served.
Assist with actual escort of patients and family members to designated locations and often times wait for designated appointments, surgeries, or events to be complete.
Must be able to load/unload luggage, packages, materials, etc. up to 50 lbs+.
Maintains a professional and friendly demeanor with patients and family members while maintaining accuracy and composure under pressure.
Shuttles patients/staff/ guests to appropriate places that are approved by manager, in a timely manner.
Must be able to learn and remember pick-up/drop off destination points (such as airport terminals, appointments, etc.) in a timely manner.
Ability to problem solve and initiate potential solutions with management for unscheduled transportation or unexpected changes to transportation schedules.
Working knowledge of the UCLA Health Medical Campus.
Ability to work with a team and to coordinate schedules that maximize efficiency for the program.
Ability to problem solve under pressure and evaluate solutions based on what is best for individual patients, family members, staff members, and the Operation Mend team.
Other Duties
Attend training classes and complete satisfactorily.
Attend and complete the hospital Customer Service training.
Pass mandatory random drug tests.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working with military patients and families is desired.
Experience working with patients with varying illnesses, injuries, and disabilities is desired.
Working knowledge of departmental policies and procedures on the safe transport of patients.
Valid Class B- California Driver s License strongly preferred.
Working knowledge of transportation policies and procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with other staff members and all other personnel.
Skill in listening and comprehending information received in person or over the telephone to transport patients.
Ability to anticipate specific needs for individual patients, family members, and staff.
Skill in speaking clearly and distinctly using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to obtain and convey information needed in the transport process of all patients and other items.
Skills in reading and understanding parking signs.
Detail oriented and ability to keep accurate and thorough records.
Ability to work standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods of time.
Ability to transport patients in a safe, efficient, and professional manner.
Required to be part of the DMV Pull Notice System.
Interpersonal skills to interact diplomatically and sensitively with patients, staff, and visitors.
Verbal and written skills to convey information using correct grammar.
Ability to perform all physical requirements of lifting a minimum of 150 lbs. using the proper body mechanics.
Working knowledge of the UCLA Health Medical campus is desired.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs (excel, word, PowerPoint, etc.) is desired.
