Under the medical direction of vascular surgeons, the per diem Clinical Nurse coordinates outpatient procedures in the Ambulatory Procedure Unit with the Administrative Specialist. The per diem nurse is responsible for the supervision of medical assistant and surgery technician, including coordinating work schedules. The nurse accepts responsibility for upgrading and maintaining nursing care policies and procedures to current practice standards of the Division of Vascular Surgery, administers medication on written orders; arranges sterile set-ups for procedures; in compliance with current protocols as approved; has responsibility to assess, implement and evaluate health care and teaching needs of vascular surgery patients; independently performs as case manager/coordinator for vascular surgery patients with complex anomalies and acquired conditions to maximize efficiency and cost effectiveness of care. The per diem nurse has the responsibility to establish good working relationships within the unit and with corresponding units maintaining professional standards.
RN License, BSN preferred. BLS required
2 years or greater of surgical outpatient experience as an RN.
Ability to work as part of a team and maintain professional relationships with medical personnel and the public.
Ability to interact diplomatically with people of various backgrounds to establish rapport and trust in a medical care setting.
Ability to read and comprehend technical material and procedure manuals.
Writing skills to maintain accurate up-to-date medical records and logs.
Ability to give direct care to specific patients and families in inpatient and outpatient settings in order
To provide an expert level of nursing care, maintain and upgrade clinical knowledge and skills.
Knowledge and ability to assess patient needs and refer to appropriate source.
Ability to set priorities, to multitask with shifting demands, deadlines and a heavy workload.
Teaching skills to assist in the training of medical assistants, medical students and residents.
Ability to work overtime or change hours when needed.
Prior experience in a surgical outpatient setting.
Prior experience supervising nursing and/or ancillary staff.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely to collect and convey information, using appropriate vocabulary, grammar and language.
