DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Adherence to hospital/departmental policy: Maintains good at10dance, punctuality; 2. Demonstrates compe10ce in the clinical skills required for patient care. Performs 12 Lead EKG, phlebotomy, bedside glucose, and other specimen collection procedures following hospital policy. Performs and records diagnostic measurements, as determined by skills training and validation, such as vital signs, intake and output (excluding IV`s, and tube feedings.) Demonstrates proficiency in using basic nursing equipment with in the scope of responsibility. . 3. Assists patients with activities of daily living, such as elimination, hygiene, nutrition, and progress activity. Encourages patient/family participation in care and provides emotional support and comfort measures to them. Transport of patients Respond to nurse call system, contact nursing personnel as appropriate, and follow through with meeting patient needs. Reports observations, conditions, and problems of patients to the licensed nurse. Practices and promotes proper aseptic technique, infection control measures, and body mechanics. Assists in all areas of perioperative services as necessary. Demonstrates knowledge of legal consequences of nursing activities within scope of responsibility. 4. Performs unit clerical functions. Demonstrates ability to operate computers, printers, copiers and other office equipment used in preop, surgery, endo and PACU areas. Maintain supply inventory. Uses computer systems to order tests, reprint facesheets, labels, admit, transfer, and discharge patients and other client service functions. Assists in the coordination of scheduling patients for preoperative appointments under the supervision of licensed personnel. Responsible for assembling surgery charts, including preoperative charts. Maintains and accurately processes and updates unit and patient record, e.g., transcription of physician orders, discharge disposition codes, computer data entries, medical records, identification labels, patients` valuables, etc. Organizes the work flow, problem solves, and manages multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision. Coordinates scheduling of tests with the healthcare team and other departments to achieve cost effective and positive patient outcomes. Inventories, monitors, and orders supplies to maintain par levels. 5. Respects and supports patient`s rights while practicing principles of patient and employee confidentiality. Recognizes ethical dilemmas, utilizes available resources, and seeks assistance in dealing with them. Follows channels of communication for effective problem solving. 6. Complete required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements. 7. Demonstrates the componets of the I CARE values statement (Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence). 8. Demonstrates the Service Pride standards (smiles and makes eye contact; greets each patient and visitor; seeks out patient and visitor contact; displays appropriate body language at all times; takes 5 minutes each day to go to above and beyond for 1 patient or visitor; honors diversity; thanks every customer). 9. Follows all safety rules while on the job. Reports all accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards. Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the work place. 10. Performs other duties as assigned. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma or GED equivalent. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Must have at least 6months previous experience as a PCA or certification as nurse aide or successful completion of clinical rotation in nursing school. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED Current Cardiovascular Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required Certification as a Patient Care Assistant (PCA), Phlebotomist, Electrogram (EKG) tech, preferred SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED 1. Must be proficient in venipuncture procedures. 2. 12 Lead ECG knowledge a plus. 3. Good communication and interpersonal skills required.
