Research & DevelopmentJOB SUMMARY:This position is responsible for organizing and performing the necessary work related to the care, palatabilitytesting, and nutritional testing of the pets under general supervision.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:1. Knowledge of and compliance with the Animal Welfare Act and all procedures and protocols in the Nestlé Purina R&D Petcare Manual2. Adherence to Nestlé Quality Management Systems (QMS) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)3. Perform feeding trials according to the protocol submitted in the request4. Schedule and process palatability tests5. Perform nutritional and behavior trials according to the protocol submitted in the request6. Accurately record data as outlined by the requesting project scientist7. Perform grooming as necessary8. Obtain animal body weights as required 9. Provide exercise programs for dogs10. Provide socialization programs for pets, especially for kittens & puppies11. Care for and monitor growth of puppies & kittens12. Report to the veterinarian sick or unusual behavior observed in the cats or dogs13. Report to the Manager any broken or damaged equipment, item or physical area14. Perform routine or minor maintenance of facility property & equipment (e.g. feeding system)15. Perform all necessary cleaning and sanitation duties16. Maintain a safe, clean and sanitary work environment17. Organize incoming food for palatability trials18. Assist with minor vet procedures (e.g. blood or urine collection, vaccinations, etc.)19. Assist with breeding of dogs & cats20. Practice safety in the work areaJOB QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, and Knowledge):' High School Diploma (or GED)' Minimum 1 year of animal handling experience or BS degree in Animal Science/Zoology or related field' Ability to work well independently and in a team' Good interpersonal, communication, organization, and math skills' Computer literacySPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS PREFERED BUT NOT REQUIRED:' Advanced training or experience in animal science, veterinary technology, or animal handling, grooming, or behavior
