Department: Physical Medicine



Overview

Provides physical therapy treatments under the supervision of a physical therapist. Documents treatments as per department standards. Monitors response to treatment. Participates in multidisciplinary activities. Participates in continuing education programs within as well as outside the hospital. Provides supervision to students during their affiliation. Participates in quality improvement programs and projects.

Duties and Responsibilities


Has completed or maintained clinical skills consistent with PTA skills checklist. Demonstrates knowledge and clinical skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and diagnosis of the patients served. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
Implement physical therapy treatments as planned and directed by a physical therapist. Involves the patient, family, and staff in the treatment program. Develops clinical skills to assure current practice standards.
Implements appropriate treatment programs. Provides written home instruction and/or assistive equipment, if needed.
Maintains complete documentation of patients treatment, progress, and discharge status. Sends required information to appropriate professionals.
Demonstrate good and safe patient care techniques.
Actively participates in rehabilitation team efforts to meet patient needs, including, but not limited to, counseling and teaching patients and their families, discussing changes in treatment programs with MD s, coordinating health care plans with other involved health professionals, and assists in discharge planning as appropriate.
Actively pursues a planned program for personal and professional development. Strives to keep current on advances in the field via professional publications, conferences, classes, and consultation with other professionals. Independently participates in available facility learning experiences.

Minimum Qualifications


Two year college degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant.

3 months experience derived through educational field work

Excellent communications skills.

For Independent Living For Seniors Employment: 1 year experience with frail elderly population preferred
