The UCLA Center for Behavioral & Addiction Medicine (CBAM) advances the prevention and treatment of chronic illnesses, especially in communities with health disparities. Our research efforts include clinical trials of anti-addiction medications and HIV prevention interventions. The PA/Research Coordinator will be responsible for day to day operations of assigned research projects and for ensuring that study activities are carried out according to the protocol and Standard Operating Procedures. This position will provide quality assurance of study data, prepare regular progress reports, and make recommendations to improve operations. This position will meet with research participants to conduct medical procedures and administer study measures, which may include injections or infusions. This position will manage multiple computer systems used for scheduling and data collection. Regularly interact with other Coordinators and staff to ensure fair and efficient use of clinic space and resources and coordinate scheduling and logistics with the off-site pharmacy.
Clinical duties will include, but are not limited to: completing informed consents, obtaining medical and psychiatric histories, performing physical exams, interpretation of lab tests and EKGs in collaboration with study physicians, ordering and dispensing of study medication, monitoring and assessment of adherence and adverse events, and providing patients with test results and referrals. The Coordinator may also share after-hours and weekend telephone call duties on a rotating basis with study physicians. Administrative duties may include maintaining medication accountability records, management of study-related regulatory paperwork (IRB, etc.) and management of clinical quality assurance procedures.
-Licensed as a Physician Assistant in the State of California.
-Minimum of 2 years experience with clinical trials, clinical research or other relevant field
-Willing and able to maintain strict confidentiality
-Skilled in keeping accurate and timely records.
-Ability to problem-solve and manage demands/assignments/deadlines.
-Able to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with people of diverse backgrounds.
-Able to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.
-Ability to question subjects about sensitive behavioral issues, including drug use, sexual activities and other high risk behaviors.
-Skill in using basic clinical and laboratory equipment.
-Knowledge and experience with Infectious disease
