Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, Orthopedics - SJMC Physician Services
Under the general direction of the Practice Administrator and supervision of the AttendingPhysician, the Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner is responsible forproviding orthopedic healthcare to patients and families, focusing on healthmaintenance, disease prevention, patient education and counseling followingestablished guidelines as required and within established scope of practice. Candidatewill practice under the direct supervision of an Orthopedic Surgeon andcollaborate with a fellow Physician Assistant in a high volume andpatient-oriented Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Practice. Must be able toefficiently collaborate with healthcare team members to manage/coordinatepatient care. The physician assistant or nurse practitioner will abide by thelawful and ethical principles of his/her profession and the staff bylaws, rulesand policies of IASIS Healthcare. A) Candidate must haveOrthopedic/Emergency experience.
B) Graduate from an accreditedadvanced practice registered nurse program. (APRN) or Graduate from accreditedPhysician Assistant (PA) program and successful completion of NationalCommission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination.
C) Current Licensure topractice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas if a Nurse Practitioner orLicensed by the Texas Board of PhysicianAssistants to practice as a PhysicianAssistant.
D) Recognized by theBoard of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas or the Texas Board of PhysicianAssistants, as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant qualifiedto see patients of the ages appropriate to their license and training. (I.e.Family Nurse Practitioners can treat all ages. Pediatric Nurse Practitioners cantreat from birth to age 18.)
E) The NP or PA musthold a current prescriptive privilege number granted by the Board of NurseExaminers of the State of Texas/National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants(NCCPA). (Eligible to make application for a prescriptive privilege number.)
F) The NP/PA must beeligible for delegated prescriptive privileges by the Texas State Board ofMedical Examiners. (I.e. DPS and DEA number in good standing)
G) Candidate must bewilling to travel between 2 clinic locations; Downtown and the Heights.
