Approved candidate will support the development of extrusion tooling made via additive manufacturing processes (3D printing), including SLA (sterolithography), FDM (fluid deposition modeling) and DMLS (direct metal laser sintering). In addition to interfacing with the 3D printing engineers on tooling design and fabrication, the candidate will work with our process engineering team to carry out extrusion trials with 3D printed tooling, and monitor results with comparison to standard machined tools.


Candidate should be familiar with basic extrusion and die design principles, and have a working knowledge of polymer materials science. Specific duties may include working with other engineers to design and fabricate dies for extrusion, carrying out extrusions using these dies, and modifying dies as necessary to achieve target dimensions. In addition, candidate will be responsible for test and measurement of extruded profiles, and also monitoring of wear for different die materials. Ideal candidates will have a graduation date between December 2017-June 2018.

This internship will take place in Summer 2017 (Approx. May - August).
