JOB DESCRIPTIONAPPLY Position Overview
The Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs or GEAR UP program is seeking Academic Tutors to work with 11th and 12th grade students at J.C. Harmon and Washington High Schools in the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools. Tutors will work with students in core academic areas during class time and afterschool. Work is temporary and the position is not eligible for benefits. The successful applicant will have the ability to work with minimum supervision and must have a strong background in one or more of the following: Mathematics (Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry), Science (Biology and Chemistry), and English Language Arts.
90% Tutoring, providing academic and homework assistance to students.
5% Attend training on The Strategic Tutoring Strategy and KCKPS volunteer training.
5% Preparing Academic Progress Reports.
* Currently attending college or have an Associate s or Bachelor s degree in Education or related fields.
* Exemplary written and oral communication skills as evidenced by the application materials and interview.
* Teacher Certification
* Teach in KCKPS at Target Schools
* College Access Experience
* STEM Background
* Tutoring Experience
* Fluent in Spanish
