JOB DESCRIPTION

The Practice Manager will be responsible for the workflow and performance of the Neurology Division to achieve expert care, excellent customer service and maximal physician/staff productivity. This person will work closely with the Lead Physician regarding strategic planning, development, continuous quality improvement and financial/budget reporting and monitoring.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Employee Management - Assume overall responsibility for division employee management and staffing including all providers, medical assistants, and administrative staff

*

Determine staffing standards based on patient care needs, patient flow, procedures and other clinical needs
*

Interview, select and hire new employees
*

Work with Human Resources to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements for clinical and non-clinical staff
*

Responsible for evaluating staff performance, developing standards and ensuring basic competencies for all staff.

*

Leadership

*

Establish credibility and a strong presence in the division.
*

Establish expectations and model behaviors that demonstrate service excellence to staff and focus on the patient as the primary customer.
*

Develop policies and procedures for division functions.
*

Identify potential problem areas, develop a system for objectively monitoring performance and creatively seek solutions to foster quality improvement.
*

Continuously optimize staff roles and responsibilities to meet performance goals.
*

Develop and maintain an open effective line of communications with providers and clinical staff.
*

Support change management.

*

Operations

*

Develop and optimize the physician templates for appropriate patient scheduling
*

Coordinate space and room assignments for providers.
*

Support and facilitate referral management process
*

Develop protocols to improve care for urgent patient problems
*

Develop protocols and create standards for patient telephone calls to providers.

*

Financial Accountability

*

Develop a system for monitoring clinic utilization, workload vs. billing, and individual physician provider productivity on a monthly basis
*

Work with the Business Office to refine and monitor billing.
*

Act as a resource to physicians, clinical staff and business office staff regarding coding questions; provide regular in-services to physicians and clinical staff.
*

Provide random chart audits for providers to ensure coding accuracy.

*

Strategic Planning

*

Handle external marketing.
*

Assist with development of business plans for new programs and other strategic initiatives for the division.
*

Participate in management meetings and participate in strategic planning, proactive interdepartmental problem solving and policy development.

*

Confidentiality

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights.Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial, or other sensitive materials and information in printed, electronic or verbal form, which may jeopardize the privacy of patients and/or employees.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

EDUCATION:

*

High School diploma or GED required.
*

A Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration or Business Administration strongly preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

*

Minimum 5-10years experience managing and running a healthcare facility.
*

Management level experience in a clinical or hospital setting, including medical insurance, coding and reimbursement.
