The Sales Engineer is responsible for assisting sales personnel in closing sales by overcoming obstacles, gaining commitment from the client and accurately setting realistic installation expectations.
Sales Engineers will be responsible for attending or consulting on a minimum number of T1 and complex application sales appointments per week. Sales Engineer will be responsible for the successful configuration and deployment of EarthLink services.
Sales Engineers will be responsible for the timely response to our clients, vendors, internal provisioning organizations, and field operations. These organizations are the foundation of our position.
Clients, vendors, and internal resources rely on timely, accurate, and honest representation of EarthLink and the subsequent delivery of these commitments. Success in this organization relies upon this principal.
The Sales Engineer role is geographically based but requires flexibility to meet specific market demands. Sales engineers will work within a sales office either in teams within a market, or independently. Regardless, they are part of the sales office, and need to act as a leader in that office, both technically and professionally.
Effectiveness is identified through the growth of technically demanding sales opportunities, and the successful conversion of these opportunities.
Measurement for success will be based on a combination of sales appointments run, T1 and larger, complex sales by market, and interval to conversion both related to baseline and relative to their peers.
Utilize interpersonal skills to interact with and influence decision-makers and quickly establish rapport.
Assist sales personnel in listening to and evaluating the needs of potential clients and identifying solutions in accordance with EarthLink's Value propositions.
Act as a liaison between Sales, Provisioning, Marketing, Engineering and Product Development to achieve common goals.
Assist sales personnel in the preparation, delivery and review of sales proposals and RFP/RFQ responses with prospects and clients.
Engage equipment vendors and integrators to ensure quality control of projects and that project timeframes are met.
Develop strong working relationships with Field Operations and external vendors in the market(s) supported
Maintain an ongoing knowledge of EarthLink's products and technologies suite as well as competing companies
Provide technical training to the Sales Organization
Engineering Degree or 3-5 years of Sales Engineering experience preferred
3-5 years Telecommunications experience, including experience with both voice and data services. Must have working knowledge of Telecommunications, Data communications, Networking technologies, IP, DSL, VPN, Web Hosting, Network Management and Security, Frame Relay, TDM, and ATM)
Solid presentation skills
Strong communications skills both written and oral

Excellent interpersonal skills
Strong PC skills, including experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and CRM tools
Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time, lift up to 25 lbs. and perform other basic physical demands of the position as needed
Valid driver's license and must maintain an acceptable MVR that meets the company insurance provider's standards
Ability to travel at least 50% of the time in the local market (little or no overnight travel required)
Minimum Education: Associates/Bachelors degree preferred or equivalent work experience
