A medical device company undergoing explosive growth and investing heavily in R&D and Clinical Trials. We innovate and develop RF and Cryogenic probes, generators, and algorithms and bring them to market to treat atrial fibrillation (AF). Seeking someone with a unique combination of skills and a desire to impact the treatment of AF which affects more than 33 million people worldwide and predisposes them to a five-fold increased risk of stroke.

You will join a nimble Research and Technology team that operates in a pre-design control environment. We evaluate technology white space, identify unmet needs, develop concepts, build and test quick-turn prototypes, and work with clinicians to improve a design before transitioning it to our Product Development teams.

Within the first year, you will prototype and code an RF Generator for researching new ablation algorithms, work with a multidisciplinary team to develop a small, maneuverable epicardial RF probe, investigate and develop prototypes using a novel energy modality for ablating tissue, and develop multiphysics models of RF interaction with tissue.

We are highly supportive of the development of Intellectual Property and of attending pertinent medical conferences. We also have a "Ride with a Rep" program to bring you into close interaction with clinicians in operating rooms and hybrid suites.


The successful candidate will have a strong track record of innovation. They will be comfortable collaborating with clinicians to identify unmet needs and solutions. They will lead research activities and exercise independent judgement to clarify and prioritize tasks to facilitate decision making. Additionally, they will provide technical expertise as a member of an agile, multidisciplinary team of Scientists, Engineers, and Model Makers. The successful candidate will be comfortable designing and implementing integrated solutions that include digital, analog, and software elements. The ability to work with consultants and suppliers to implement solutions will be required.



Define requirements, build, test and implement a platform for developing and evaluating novel ablation algorithms

Lead efforts to identify and optimize novel RF ablation algorithms using rapidly modifiable software, such as LabView

Lead efforts to develop and validate a model of the physical interaction of RF energy and tissue using multiphysics software such as COMSOL or ANSYS

Develop relationships with Key Opinion Leaders in the cardiothoracic surgery, cardiology, and electrophysiology fields that lead to identification of opportunities and co-invention of devices

Participate in Voice of the Customer planning, collection, and analysis

Plan and conduce hands-on experimental work (bench, in vitro and in vivo) to fully evaluate device prototypes

Collaborate with Product Development teams to efficiently transition projects/concepts into Design Control

Prepare presentations and reports in support of R&D activities. Create clear informative communications in PowerPoint. Present research opportunities, technology concepts, test data and provide recommendations to management

Submit new innovations regularly to Patent Review Board

Stay abreast of latest relevant technology through literature, seminars, conferences, academia and industry



BSEE + 15years of experience, or MSEE + 10years of experience or PhD + 5years of experience in electrical engineering

Significant experience identifying medical device unmet needs and developing, prototyping, and testing concepts to address those needs

Experience in applying analog, digital, and software solutions in medical device research

Demonstrated initiative to solve complex technical problems

Track record of successful product development working in cross-functional project teams

Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

Track record of generating intellectual property

Experience with LabView/MatLab
