The Principal Instructional Designer is responsible for providing program design expertise in creating online & in-person end-user training courses for the UCPath implementation at UC Riverside. Under the guidance and supervision of the Organization Change Management (OCM) Manager, this position will develop learning resources based on the Future Operating Model (FOM) combined with best practices input from Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). The Principal Instructional Designer will work closely with end-user trainers and will collaborate with the UCPath implementation team to create a clear understanding of the knowledge and skills needed for UC Riverside employees to successfully transition to the UCPath and FOM initiatives. This include determining learning factors such as audience, complexity of content, technology requirements, class size, course length and the department/location's culture. Knowledge of PeopleSoft Payroll and HR system is essential for this position.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Master's degree in instructional technology, education, communications, information technology, curriculum design, or related field preferred.
Certificate in online instruction Preferred
Minimum of 8 years of related experience.
Supervisory experience with trainers.
Experience with software applications: Adobe Create Suite, Microsoft Office, Camtasia, Captivate, and/or Articulate to create training and/or instructional content and experience using a variety of educational technology tools (e.g., screen capture, webcasting, file storage, online collaboration, ePortfolios, etc.) to support teaching and learning.
Ability to coach, facilitate and influence people at all levels.
Applies strong verbal, written communication and presentation skills.
Knowledge of the consulting process to effectively lead engagements from inception to conclusion.
Possesses strong consulting, relationship building, and strategic thinking skills.
Advanced knowledge of the organizational development and effectiveness field, theories, models to assess, design and implement customized, strategic organization interventions.
Demonstrates skill consulting to managers and groups at all levels.
Demonstrates strong analytical, problem-solving, project planning and implementation skills.
Sound judgment, ability to draw unbiased conclusions.
Demonstrates ability to learn quickly, reason, synthesize and generalize based on information obtained.
Ability to persuade through both logic and appeal to positive motivations.
Ability to focus on priorities, strategies, and vision.
Demonstrated knowledge of: learning management systems (preferably Moodle); instructional design principles; instructional development models; and adult learning theory.
Must possess: excellent customer service skills and interpersonal/intercultural skills working with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, and administrators.
Have the ability to write, develop, and publish training guides, support documentation, online tutorials, and/or video or web-based training materials, and train and oversee student employees.
