Job Description
This position exists to ensure The Timken Company TYPE 1 suppliers (suppliers of products and/or services which become part of our product) are capable of reliably providing quality (conformance to requirements and specifications) products and services while continuously improving in quality, cost, and service/delivery (total cost of ownership) to meet the needs of our internal facilities and our customers. Responsibilities include: Supplier DevelopmentParticipate and/or lead activities to bring on new suppliers that meet internal Timken quality, delivery, and performance expectations for the above mentioned purchased parts through coordination with Global Sourcing, review of supplier assessments, and initiate development plans. Quality AssurancePerform pre-defined systems and process audits per recognized standards, as well as modify/create audit questions to identify and improve quality systems and processes of suppliers which affect The Timken Company products or services. Use the results of these audits to approve and rate the suppliers to minimize The Timken Company risks and maximize profitability. Quality PlanningParticipate with suppliers and internal technical experts to develop robust quality plans that prevent problems from occurring and ensure reliable capability while minimizing costs. Review and approve supplier quality plans and part submittals such as PPAP and ISIR and ensure accurate and complete records are maintained for traceability. Quality ControlParticipate and/or lead the resolution of quality issues related to the above mentioned purchased parts through identification of root cause and the implementation and verification of effective corrective and preventive action. Continuous ImprovementUse the data acquired from performing the above activities, as well as external and internal resources, to identify and implement opportunities for improving quality, cost, or service/delivery. Monitor supplier quality performance and assist with other performance metrics. Use problem solving and process improvement tools such as SPC, Pareto analysis, Benchmarking, TQM (Total Quality Management), and others to perform this work.
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, Technical, Business, or related field with minimum of 4 years experience required; 7 years of experience preferred OR
- Masters degree in Engineering, Technical, Business, or related field with minimum of 1 year of experience required; 5 years of experience preferred
- Strong background in quality principles and disciplines
- Product knowledge of bearings and components produced or purchased by Timken preferred
- Ability to interact effectively with suppliers and internal Timken resources
- Ability to travel (domestically and internationally)
- Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) knowledge and experience
- Desired: Lead Auditor Certification American Society for Quality (ASQ), CQE or CQA Lean Six Sigma Certification: E1 (green belt) or E2 (black belt)
