United States Steel Corporation has an immediate opening for a Product Application Engineer our Consumer Solutions business. This position is remotely located and requires extensive travel to customer and plant locations. The Product Application Engineer will be accountable for new product development, applications development and work with our customers/commercial team to identify future customer/market requirements based on customer needs/market usage/ application trends specific to customer design needs. This Engineer will work directly with our customers (and in some cases downstream OEMs) to bring new product to market and to identify and develop new products for future development. This Engineer will evaluate and prioritize these requirements in junction with industry strategy teams to develop an overall USS product development roadmap that positions USS for success. This position will report to the Innovation/Product Development Manager for Packaging.
Responsibilities include the following:
Manage the process for identifying new global/regional business opportunities by analyzing future product requirements and actively participate in the individual business trade team.
Initiate and complete design/product development/application projects (internally, with customers, other OEM companies, and industry) to promote USS advance Consumer Solutions products in Packaging
Assist in the investigation, identification and definition of new or enhanced products and/or revenue opportunities
Develop and manage a structured process to evaluate and build business cases for new business opportunities and act as sponsor through the commercial funding process
Identify future roadmap for grade/product development to direct research and development activities and lead trial activities of new products across all USS facilities.
Work across US Steel and with technical Joint Ventures, Research & Development and other partners to develop and refine product designs.
Stay abreast of industry issues, trends, and developments that are relevant for product development or evaluating product design opportunities.
Serve as a technical representative for Sales in customer discussions
Work with Product Managers to assess how/if potential new product opportunities fit into the overall product strategy.
Own the quality solution by Interfacing between customers and mill operations to resolve issues, disposition product, and implement corrective actions
:Bachelor s degree in materials science, metallurgy, mechanical engineering or related field. Masters preferred.
:At least 10 years of proven experience in technical project management in the field with customer/business development experience. Preferred experience in packaging application engineering and related function in an industrial manufacturing and business to business environment.
:Exceptional communication, collaboration, and leadership skills are required, with the ability to work with various levels of customer and corporate management to ensure implementation.
:Ability to use and navigate common business software packages
: At least 50% travel required.
