JOB DESCRIPTION

Joins a team responsible for product design activities . Details automotive sealing / weatherstrip components that meet customer requirements. Completes ECN activities on existing components and assists in the detailing of components/process related drawings. Designs parts and systems in a manner which reflects the forming processes and capabilities of the manufacturing and assembly tooling. Has expert command and knowledge of UG softwaresystem needed to perform design duties. Interprets and follows design direction with minimal additional direction needed to complete task. Capable of developing multiple concepts in a short duration with little experience. Able to create conceptual class "A" surface from scans, point clouds, surfaces, master sections. Understands and applies customer's given standards and procedures within the part or assembly design. Performs multiple advanced modeling projects correctly and efficiently in order to contain all program timing. Practices proper modeling techniques which allows part/assembly to be easily modified during later engineering changes. Able to create 2D drawings that are completed with enough data to ensure that the part could be manufactured, quoted, or gauged for functionality. Effectively uses and interprets simulation applications during modeling and design. Understands and applies rubber sealing technologies and practices within design. Understands and applies geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T) to component and systems designs. Solid understanding of automotive structure (part placement, usage, and performance). Understands and adheres to company engineering work order system. Reports to Design Supervisor.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Document and maintains material, mass, and other part specifications within the Math file
* Supports CAE with studies to improve designs
* Applies manufacturability, Design for Assembly, and integration knowledge to parts and subsystem designs
* Supports lessons learned through updating Best Practices and learning sessions with Designers
* Design highly complex components and simple sub-systems
* Responsible for the design of handling and fixtures for plant support
* Strong understanding of tolerance stack-ups for manufacturing issues
* Highly proficient with computer based design and office software
* Design highly complex components and simple sub-systems
* Provide technical design leadership for a major sub-system
* Verify quality to design team output

* Details component-related drawings
Confers with engineering and design staff to determine design modifications and updates the models/drawings accordingly
Utilizes CAD hardware to produce 3D/2D data and/or hardcopy drawings
Manages multiple projects and meets quality and timing requirements
Integrates with platform teams to complete design projects

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

* Associate Degree / Two year technical degree with specialization in computer aided design
* Experience with rubber weatherstripping / sealing products is a must. Candidate should have at least 3-5 years of design experience with this product line and not more than 2-3 years since working directly in the design of this product line

* Must have experience in CATIA V5 or Unigraphics NX7 (or greater)
CATIA V5 2D drawing experience, 3 years min
CATIA V5 3D design experience, 3 years min
* Knowledge of drafting
GD&T practical use experience a plus* Must pass a 1 hour evaluation of 3D modeling and 2D drawing skills as part of the interview process
* High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual or difficult
* Proficient understanding of Specification and Release terms and systems
* Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
* Demonstrated technical skills in job related area
* Good oral and written communication skills
* Candidate should not require sponsorship to work in the US
