Job Description
We need a great product manager...are you it?
This role reports to the Senior Director of Products. Here's the deal:
Behaviors (e.g. tools and skills to be used)
- Product Vision and Strategy, and Agility
- Participate in managing the product roadmap
- Be on top of the competitive landscape; know what are our competitors doing constantly and ensure we are not following, but leading with innovation
- Anticipate and experiment, not afraid to iterate, learn, and readjust. Be a creative leader.
- Know the business, how we make money, and how we deliver world-class content and tools to our users
Customer Focus and Metrics
- Think of customers first; this includes both users and marketers
- Love numbers and analysis --slice data regularly to understand how users interact with the site as well as how marketers maximize their ad campaigns
Communicate Effectively
- Product Requirements Documents -- great at writing product requirements documents that are clear, thorough and convey the desired functional experience to all internal parties
- Run meetings with authority and direct outcomes
- Be the best hallway conversationalist
- Be known as a consummate diplomat and interpreter where you can talk engineer as easily as you can talk editorial or marketing
Be a Leader
- Make the call on desired product functionality, approve designs, and make game time decisions to ensure we are on track to meet business goals
- Be a \'general contractor\' -- managing launch dates and making sure all the disparate teams that do not report to you are excited, motivated, and know what is expected of them all the time so we launch products
- Be the Voice and Owner -- be the authoritative voice of the CBS News.com products; showcasing, championing, and finding ways to constantly innovate user and advertiser experiences
Accountability (e.g. expectations of the outcomes)
- Define the product in all aspects by maintaining, updating, and innovating the product functionality constantly
- Be an equal partner and teammate to the editorial staff by solving each other's problems and working in unison to reach the business goals
- Maintain CBS News.com as a premium brand in the news category
- Increase loyalty
- Increase monthly unique users on site to targets
- Work productively with Sales and Marketing to exceed revenue targets and deliver ad innovation
