Job Description

Product Development/Project Manager, Publishing and Communications

The Product Development Manager is the primary point of contact between the Publishing and Communications functions and the technical development teams (both Firm IT and external vendors) who implement the Firm's digital offerings. She/he helps develop the strategy and vision, leads the definition of technical requirements, and manages the technical build.

The Product Development Manager is responsible for ensuring a product or application is of the highest technical standard and successfully enhances the Firm's reputation and reach. Examples of these products include websites (both public and private), CRM solutions, social media applications, mobile applications, etc.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, Digital Communications, the Product Development Manager works closely with Publishing and Communications colleagues to design and define new products. She/he then develops detailed requirements and specifications, determines the most effective implementation plan, and closely manages the implementation by technical developers.

would be interesting to also have someone who has worked in the publishing industry (versus doing publishing for another industry). a lot of what we do is business publishing (eg, they need to do on-line publishing). not necessarily a requirement, but would be interesting to add to the mix. also, regarding technical chops: as long as they've had experience in all aspects of a website: production, SEO, CMS, integrating systems, bug tracking in Jira, utilizing scrum and other project processes, etc,

there isn't a specific language or system they need to know.

our CMS is Sitecore - if you find someone with sitecore experience, great. but, they will only need to know what an editor would know, and that can be trained.it's more about program management, project managing across the multiple disciplines, ability to get stuff done! 3+ years of relevant work experience in Digital Product Management/ Technical Strategy8-10+ years total work experience in software/digital marketing/digital publishing/internet technologiesExpert-level knowledge in Web 2.0 social networking and blog platforms, widget development, mobile and emerging digital interfacesExtensive experience working with enterprise-level CMS systems and search solutionsProven analytical and quantitative skills; ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions and develop project business casesExperience implementing analytics strategies and awareness of current analytics productsUp-to-date understanding of market trends and keen interest in following emerging technologies
They are re-launching their corporate website - and Many new web projects
They work with digital agency (visual design scoped out- will be andldquo;joint buildandrdquo; to accelerate this)
They have internal Firm IT app dev teams - internally hosted and managed by internal IT
The IT group hasn't launched a website before - they need someone to lead how requirements are moved into web projects
Need to truly appreciate what the Business (the andldquo;clientsandrdquo;) need.

They are building the website, mobile builds etc.
Need someone to GUIDE the entire process - true Tactical/Delivery
The current Web site is andldquo;oldandrdquo; - not effective to today's marketplace. They want to show who they are, what capabilities are across sectors and for the first time and locate Knowledge - eg, This will expand the use of their information and Research and make it all Accessible to clients and potential clients.
This is a large global firm - lot of Content - over 26 practices, 90+ offices - brand consistency etc.
Major challenge - migration into the Digital world (content over million users, decades of information, subscription feeds )
Customized SEARCH - eg, practice finder - how clients can get questions into a real inquiry and dynamic web page.
Single sign on - multiple platforms/passwords

This role isn't to andldquo;codeandrdquo; this - but many pieces to be a Project manager -- understand business requirements, work with the IT staff and the Agency
Need to have build out Web presence previously - driving High profile projects
Agency experience is helpful
Overall - Technical Project Management --- big pictureandhellip; how to run this IT, Business and the Agency
Where resources are needed How to get resources, who should we bring in for more resources
Know Technology enough to know the andldquo;BSandrdquo;
Need true Tactical experience - how to get things done!!
Need to launch sites - know timing , what problems will happen with the site
SiteCore - Open CMS - experience - CMS - editorial work flow - create a working editorial interface
They use Agile, Scrum - fast paced methodology
Engineers use a variety of languagesandmdash;knowledge SDLC
