Job Description

The DOE Joint Genome Institute (JGI) in Walnut Creek, CA (a division of the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab) has an exciting opportunity available for an experienced production scheduler. Under general supervision, will be responsible for planning & establishing production sequencing schedules to comply with customer delivery requirements. Will collect & evaluate information on programmatic sequence commitments from the Project Management Office & schedule sequencing work to production utilizing the current scheduling systems. Will continually monitor the status of project tasks in the production process, review & evaluate factors which affect schedules & document on-going activities in appropriate data tracking systems. Will provide accurate reporting & evaluation of trends as well as disseminate information through all levels of the JGI by means of written reports & presentations delivered at regularly scheduled meetings. This position is a member of the Strategic Planning, Operations & Capability (SPOC) group. Position report to the Workflow Project Manager.

Specific Job Duties
Essential
- Collect & evaluate information on programmatic sequence commitments from the Project Management Office & develop sequencing schedules & plans to comply with customer delivery requirements.
- Ensure that sequencing runs are prioritized for on time delivery & raw materials are available as schedules are created.
- Update & publish the weekly sequencing plan for the Production Sequencing Line.
- Document on-going activities in appropriate data tracking systems & disseminate information through all levels of the JGI.
- Communicate with the JGI Production Line Management regarding work requirements.
- Continually monitor the status of project tasks & review & evaluate factors which affect schedules.
- Troubleshooting problem project tasks as they arise.
- Work with Workflow Project Managers to identify projects with increased cycle times & monitor closely to ensure timeline progress.

Marginal
- Participate in various group meetings to discuss project management, efficiencies & work flow processes.
- Present work at meetings & conferences.
- Provide accurate reporting & evaluation of trends as well as disseminate information through all levels of the JGI.
- Provide on-going feedback on informatics tools used for reporting & scheduling.
