Job Description

Mercer Universitys Physician Assistant Program is seeking a dynamic director to provide leadership in continuing the development and growth of the newly accredited program. The program is in the College of Pharmacy and Health Science and is based on Mercer Universitys Cecil B. Day Campus in Atlanta. The program offers a Master of Medical Science degree and will have its second graduating class in 2011. The Program Directors position will be either tenure track or non-tenure track, and will hold an academic rank commensurate with individual qualifications. The director will be responsible for hiring faculty and staff for the program, will make key decisions related to the curriculum and organization of the program, and will guide the program through the ongoing accreditation process. The Program Director will also be involved in teaching, faculty development, scholarly activities, and service to the University and community. This program is a collaborative effort between Mercer University and Piedmont Healthcare, a major regional health care system with sites located in the Atlanta metropolitan area. Position Qualifications: 1. NCCPA Board Certified physician assistant or board certified physician licensed in Georgia or eligible for state licensure, if licensed elsewhere. 2. Minimum of five years experience in health care education is required, preferably physician assistant education. 3. Clinical experience is required. 4. Masters degree required, doctorate preferred. 5. Effective, energetic leader with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, staff members and external stakeholders. This position will be a 12-month appointment and will report to the Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Mercer University is a private, comprehensive, faith-based institution that has 8,200 students; 1,600 faculty and staff; 11 schools and colleges; major campuses in Macon, Atlanta, and Savannah, Georgia; and four regional academic centers across the state. The Atlanta campus, which has an enrollment of 2,800 students, is situated on over 250 wooded acres and is located 12 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta.
