Department Description

UCSF Benioff Children s Hospital San Francisco is the only California state-designated children s medical center in San Francisco. The hospital is one of the leading children's hospitals in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report. Its expertise covers virtually all pediatric conditions, including cancer, heart disease, neurological disorders, organ transplants and orthopedics as well as the care of critically ill newborns.


Job Summary

The Patient Care Manager (PCM) ensures the quality of a patient care in the Children's Hospital Transport Team and Access Center. Serves as a role model for professional nursing practice. Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and materiel resources on a 24-hour basis.

This position oversees two cost centers. The UCSF Children s Hospital Transport Program provides 24/7 inter-facility critical care air and ground transport for infants and children from through-out California and beyond. The Children's Hospital Access Center is a 24/7 physician referral hotline and transport dispatching center which processes all same day urgent, direct and emergent admissions and transfers to UCSF Children s Hospital and Center for Mother s and Newborns.

The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required.

Work Environment

* Keeps working areas neat, orderly and clutter-free, including the hallways. Adheres to cleaning processes and puts things back where they belong. Removes and reports broken equipment and furniture.

* Picks up and disposes of any litter found throughout entire facility.

* Posts flyers and posters in designated areas only; does not post on walls, doors or windows.

* Knows where the Environment of Care Manual is kept in department; corrects or reports unsafe conditions to the appropriate departments.

* Protects the physical environment and equipment from damage and theft.

Required Qualifications

* Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California as well as appropriate education and clinical experience (pediatric and/or pediatric critical care experience)

* Master's degree in nursing and six months' clinical experience (pediatric and/or pediatric critical care experience); or a Baccalaureate degree in nursing and one year of clinical experience (pediatric and/or pediatric critical care experience

* The ability to meet the physical requirements of the position

* Current American Heart Association CPR certification

* The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required

Preferred Qualifications

* Previous administrative experience preferred

* Previous Transport and /or Access Center experience preferred

* Clinical experience in pediatric and /or neonatal critical care preferred

Licensure/Certification

* Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California

* Current American Heart Association CPR certification
