JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Project Manager is a field based contract position charged with developing, marketing, and managing a replicable caregiving demonstration project in Los Angeles that focuses on the H/L community and provides a transparent and seamless local experience for family caregivers.

The PM provides direct and highly responsible technical and project management support to ensure project milestones are achieved. The position is client-focused and is able to advocate and negotiate on behalf of CSN Programs with the State Office and external parties across topics of primary concern to AARP's policies and programs on caregiving. The Project Manager:
1. Demonstrates a broad knowledge and understanding of Los Angeles County and its multicultural audiences, specifically H/L, and key organizations related to the project's goals;
2. Understands caregiving and stays abreast of relevant research, significant trends, relevant drivers and barriers, appropriate media, public policy developments, and potential new opportunities to promote AARP's message and programs;
3. Identifies and recruits coalition of key stakeholders and community leaders that will help inform the community programs, market the programs to potential clients, and provide advice and counsel throughout the life of the project;
4. Networks effectively, internally and externally, to identify opportunities for project development and expansion.
5. Coordinates the Caregiving Project Team, comprised of multiple disciplinary business units and individuals, and coordinates inter-organizational approaches;
6. Uses research provided by staff, updates and maintains databases necessary to ensure institutional memory of relationships and activity;
7. Demonstrates strong coordination and process management skills. Involves coordination across several AARP groups, preparation and review of materials, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines and systems;
8. Prepares written reports and communications materials for use across CSN and Programs;
9. Manages the process and completion of projects and keeps the Caregiving Project Team on track to reach their objectives;
10. Handles special projects (often in the form of written reports and recommendations) that support CSN's work and produces deliverables for Programs VP;
11. Meet multiple deadlines and deliverables;
12. Demonstrates and reinforces the AARP Leadership Behaviors in all interactions.

II. POSITION COMPLEXITY, INTERACTION informs and coordinates with staff and other units within CSN and AARP to work together; works collegially with outside professionals in a variety of areas. The position calls for a degree of autonomy and independent judgment with appropriate management check-ins and communication. Must be able to make good decisions through a combination of experience, creativity and the ability to exercise good judgment. Interacts regularly with the Programs VP, State Office leadership, and community partners and leaders.
