VHB seeks a Project Manager/Senior Environmental Planner to join our Watertown, MA office. We are hiring a senior professional to grow our Environmental Planning Group. VHB provides environmental planning, sustainability, resiliency, and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) services to airports, state departments of transportation, and other entities. With a focus on strategic planning, policy development, compliance, and supporting technical analysis, VHB helps nation-wide clients meet regulatory requirements and identify and achieve their sustainability goals. Candidates for this position should demonstrate their ability to lead project teams, supervise and develop staff, provide excellent client service with innovative and strategic solutions, and conduct business development.
VHB's sustainability reports and plans address air quality/ greenhouse gas emissions, climate change mitigation and adaptation, energy efficiency and renewable energy, water conservation and water quality, natural resource management, land use, solid waste management, community engagement, well-being and health, social responsibility, economic viability, and sustainable planning, design, and construction. We are looking for applicants with demonstrated experience developing sustainability programs, with specialized experience in one or more of the above-listed topic areas.
VHB provides NEPA services to federal agencies and state departments of transportation to help them successfully define the project's purpose and need, develop alternatives, analyze environmental impacts, and develop mitigation programs. Our NEPA services also include agency coordination, public outreach, and GIS/mapping. Candidates should provide information on their NEPA experience and roles on Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Statements.
Responsibilities: Collaborate with and grow VHB's Environmental Practice Supervise and develop staff Manage project teams and technical sub-consultants Coordinate with clients Identify and pursue new business Develop project scopes of work, fee estimates, and schedules Develop sustainability strategies and plans for organizations to implement Prepare sustainability reports Prepare NEPA documentation Plan and participate in stakeholder meetings, public workshops, and public hearings Conduct technical analysis and report writing Provide quality assurance and control
Skills and Abilities: Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Leadership and mentoring skills Self-motivated Highly organized Capable of coordinating and performing multiple tasks Experience with stakeholder facilitation, public presentations, and public hearings Demonstrated experience developing sustainability programs Ability to problem solve and think creatively Ability to travel Knowledge of airports, transportation authorities, local governments, energy efficiency, waste management/recycling, climate adaptation/resiliency planning a plus
Qualifications: B.S./B.A. in urban planning, environmental planning, environmental science, or a related field 10+ years of experience in environmental consulting or related field Advanced study or equivalent experience in urban or institutional planning a plus Writing samples and references will be required
