The successful candidate will lead monitoring tasks, perform client coordination, manage design tasks and mentor junior staff members. The position requires the candidate to work independently and within a team, working within established budgets, and performing crossover work when needed (e.g. watershed assessments and Natural Resource Inventory tasks). Support the development of multi-disciplinary watershed restoration planning efforts Chesapeake Bay pollutant reduction strategies.
KCI s Natural Resources Practice is seeking a talented and motivated stream restoration designer (scientist or engineer) to work in our Sparks, MD headquarters on projects throughout the Chesapeake Bay and Mid-Atlantic Region including stream and floodplain restoration, dam removal and fish passage, and Bay Pollutant reduction.
This position requires strong skills in site and problem assessment through knowledge and familiarity of Rosgen evaluation techniques, channel evolution model, and fluvial processes and influences including urban storm water, historic land use impacts, and physiographic provinces. Experience with channel restoration design and construction oversight is needed to fulfill this position.

5-10 years of professional experience related to ecological restoration and stream assessment for natural and urban channels.
Applied knowledge of the principles of geomorphology and Hydrology & Hydraulics (H&H) is preferred. Experience with wetland delineation and natural resources assessments (wildlife, fisheries, aquatic biota, botanical), and environmental permitting a plus, but not required. Formal training in fluvial geomorphology preferred.
Strong understanding of fluvial geomorphology, Rosgen Stream Classification, fish passage design is required. Understanding of restoration methodologies for various land use and channel bed materials; familiarity with GIS analysis and basic drafting; excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent organizational and time management; strong task management skills; strong interpersonal skills; rigorous research and analysis skills; ability to learn quickly.
DEGREES / LICENSES (R)EQUIRED (P)REFERRED
BS in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Wildlife and Fisheries Management, Environmental or Water Resource Engineering or equivalent (R). MS in relevant fields a plus (P).
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) a plus (P).
Ability to work in a team environment, with individuals in other geographies a must. Overnight travel will be required on occasion.
