Mobile technologies play an increasingly important role in healthcare to help support workflows and improve quality, safety and efficiency. Under the direction of the Team Lead, BWHC IS Management & Planning, this position participates in the design, development, testing, implementation, and support of new and existing mobile applications. Immediate project needs include the planning, implementing and supporting the roll-out of mobile device management (MDM) and secure messaging to our users. The Project Specialist will work closely with clinical and operational leaders to design and execute implementation plans and ensure robust support during and after implementation.
BWH envisions making custom developed and commercial mobile applications available to staff (via MDM) and to patients. The Project Specialist will support application distribution via MDM, including innovators from across the hospital using mobile technology for research and discovery.
This person will be on the cutting edge of implementing mHealth and mobile technologies for our patients, providers, and staff. They will be an integral team member working closely with enterprise information systems team as well as the Brigham Innovation Hub (iHub).
Lead the implementation of enterprise mobile tools such as mobile device management and secure text messaging
Develop training materials to support mobile initiatives
Develop expertise on secure communication technologies, such as Imprivata
Develops mobile strategies and solutions that comply with Partners information systems standards and strategic directions.
Work with vendors, developers, and/or other I.S. teams in assessment, development, and support of existing or new application interfaces.
Develop project goals, objectives, approach, timeline, and scope in collaboration with the BWH business leadership through negotiation and diplomacy that result in a well defined, well sponsored project.
Develop capital and operating funding requirements associated with a project. Manage project within allocated budget.
Manage IS projects within the context of the larger environment including competing priorities, staffing levels, budgetary concerns. Provide appropriate and timely problem escalation reporting (and potential solutions if applicable) to both IS management, project steering committee, and executive hospital management.
Primarily function as an autonomous decision maker, but recognize when the involvement of senior management and the appropriate leadership at BWH is required.
Plan, manage, and over-see project, utilizing recognized project management methodology including activities such as:
Definition of project scope and objectives
Management and status reporting tools
Feasibility and cost benefit studies
Requirements definition (functional and/or technical)
Vendor selection, installation, and interfacing
System testing/quality assurance
Project administrative activities
Facilitate and ensure that project team completes work assignments in accordance with an established project timeline, and with quality results.
Provide on-going project status reports to internal IS management, user groups, project steering committee and executive hospital management.
Identify and manage enterprise-wide resources necessary to appropriately implement the project.
Establish and create a positive project team environment through leadership and mentoring.
Provide quality customer service and serve as an exemplary representative of Partners Information Systems. On-going communication, feedback and follow-through with customers and executive hospital management is essential.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelors degree in a health profession field or information/computer science, Masters Degree preferred
5 years of experience in computer systems or healthcare required. 8 or more years preferred.
Must have experience with major system installations and interfacing.
Proven project management experience in a complex environment required.
Knowledge of Windows and Apple computers and applications, e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Project, and PowerPoint required.
Experience with Apple iOS, Android, and Microsoft Surface devices required.
Experience with mobile device management tools, such as MobileIron preferred
Experience providing support services to a diverse user base.
Knowledge of mobile device management platforms such as MobileIron and of HL7 standard, web services, and XML data format preferred.
Skills, Abilities, Competencies
Excellent project management skills in a complex environment with multiple concurrent multidisciplinary projects. Ability to implement complex projects.
Strong leadership skills and proven ability to manage diverse group of individuals, and work effectively with multiple teams. Ability to manage staff/projects in both a direct and matrix reporting environment.
Experience with vendor selection processes, installations and interface design
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with all levels of organization.
Exhibits strong professional persona.
Demonstrated commitment to delivery of high quality customer service.
Ability to self-manage, assuming full ownership of overall outcomes from start to finish.
Ability to work with vendors and other external parties, negotiating or pushing as necessary to meet project timelines/goals or Partners standards.
Office environment with local travel to other BWHC sites or patient care areas.
Must be able to provide adequate transportation between work locations.
Off-site pager coverage for user support as assigned participate in team rotation for 24 x7 on call support
As projects and priorities dictate, must be available to work non-standard business hours such as evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays if/when necessary.
Fast-paced working environment
At the project level, responsible for assigning work to project team members, providing guidance and direction, and ensuring the timeliness and quality of work delivered by project team members. No direct reports, but may require supervising project contractor resources.
Must develop and adhere to project budget.
