Job Description

The Center for Justice, Safety, and Resilience at RTI International has an opening for a Public Health Analyst - Bachelor\'s Level to support task and project leaders for ongoing and new research studies on crime and related problems, criminal and juvenile justice systems, policing and investigative sciences, safety threats and responses, and prevention and intervention activities designed to ameliorate societal problems and increase community and individual health, safety, and resilience. The position will be located in Research Triangle Park, NC.


The position includes a broad range of project administrative and research activities.

Administrative functions

* Fulfill all work-related obligations

* Document time spent on multiple activities

* Attend and participate in meetings

* Coordinate internal and external communications and meetings, including scheduling meetings, developing meeting agendas, taking detailed notes, and conducting meeting follow up

* Draft progress reports and monitor achievement of project milestones

Research activities

* Conduct literature reviews and environmental scans

* Assist with the coordination and planning of data collection activities (i.e. site visits, focus groups, in-depth-interviews, and/or or surveys and questionnaires)

* Assist with qualitative data collection and analysis (e.g., taking interview and focus group notes, coding qualitative data)

* Design, construct, use and maintain large databases of moderate complexity using Excel or other database software

* Perform statistical analyses using Excel, SPSS, SAS or STATA

* Interpret statistical output, create tables and graphs from statistical output

* Assist in report writing (e.g., reports, presentations, etc.)

* Assist in the development of proposals (e.g., gather background information, draft sections)

* Travel to conduct fieldwork (e.g., interviews and focus groups)


* BA/BS (We will consider May 2017 graduates) in criminology, economics, geography, psychology, public health, public policy, sociology, statistics, or a related field

* Demonstrated interest/background in social science research

* Proficient qualitative and/or quantitative research methods demonstrated by relevant research experience/coursework

* Experience using statistical programming packages (e.g., Excel, SAS or STATA) demonstrated research experience preferred

* Proficiency with MS Office Suite

* Strong oral and written communication skills are required; proficiency in Spanish a plus

* Ability to operate independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously

* Excellent attention to detail and highly organized

* To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require now, or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status
