Job Description
PRIMARY ROLE:
The R&D Business Analytics group is responsible for developing analyses and insights to address R&D senior management business questions, to inform pipeline portfolio planning and to support R&D strategic decision making. This role reports to the Head of R&D Business Analytics.

Responsibilities
Independently drive decision making through rigorous, fact based quantitative analysis and the synthesis of insights into actionable recommendations
Work closely with R&D teams (functions, development teams, etc,) and across the organization (corporate strategy, business development, finance, etc) to develop integrated assessments
Refine and deliver tools, processes and materials to support the discussion and communication of strategic, portfolio and program information

Examples of the types of analysis carried out in this role:
Lead portfolio assessments to prioritize R&D programs and provide clear recommendations to governance bodies that maximize the value of Shire s pipeline
Carry out competitive analysis, benchmarking, and primary and secondary research to understand industry best practices and identify actions to boost R&D productivity
Model the portfolio and R&D resources to support investment planning and decision making for both internal programs and external opportunities
Implement business processes that enable pipeline risk management e.g. assessment of programs probability of success
Collect and synthesize information for critical R&D strategic initiatives and Long Range Plans
Support ad hoc special projects requested by R&D leaders

RESPONSIBILITIES:
60%:
Independently drive decision making through rigorous, fact based quantitative analysis and synthesis of insights into actionable recommendations

20%:
Work closely with R&D teams (functions, development teams, etc,) and across the organization (corporate strategy, business development, finance, etc) to develop integrated assessments

20%:
Develop tools, processes and materials to support the discussion and communication of strategic, portfolio and program information

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Required: 2+ years work experience in Management Consulting sector or 6+ years work experience in strategic planning and/or portfolio management industry roles
Required: MBA from an accredited program or an advanced medical / biological sciences degree (MD or PhD)
Required: Biotech/Pharmaceutical sector experience
Strongly preferred: Knowledge of drug development from scientific, commercial and financial perspectives

OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Occasional travel may be required
