The Project Leader works as a member of the Technology team within the Silanes Global Business Unit. The successful candidate for this position will be based in our Tire Applications Laboratory in Charlotte, North Carolina and will lead a project team of scientists in the design, development and technical marketing of new product technologies for the Tire industry that will drive significant business growth for Momentive. The ideal candidate is a visionary and open thinker that has experience working for a tire manufacturer and is the leading expert in the design of new product technologies for tread compounds to be used in truck tires. In this role, the successful candidate will work closely with our field technical marketing team and with our customers tire technologists to understand, and to address, their unmet needs.

Job Responsibilities
Lead a team of high-performing chemists, material scientists and engineers in the design and development of innovative new product technologies for the Tire & Rubber industry with a focus on truck tires
Definition of clear technical targets based on hypotheses developed from expressed customer and market needs and a deep technical analysis of the problems to be solved
Design of experiments to accomplish technical goals based on expertise in network chemistry, polymer interactions, and the influence of processing on compound properties
Establishment of key project milestones and timelines as well as effective project management and resource allocation and prioritization according to business needs
Leverage, and help to develop, strong tire laboratory applications capabilities and leading-edge evaluation and characterization methods to assess the value and performance of Momentive product technologies in tread compounds for truck tire
Provide professional customer support related to the adoption and use of new products, including travel to customer sites as needed
Assistance with the scale-up and commercialization of new products
Solid understanding of relevant competitive and patent landscapes. Ensure effective patenting of proprietary technology and processes
Close collaboration with global marketing and business functions; clear communication of priorities, goals, and issues

Minimum Qualifications
Extensive knowledge of chemistry and mechanisms, plus physical interactions that influence rubber compound properties and truck tire performance
Self-motivated individual with demonstrated track record of high academic achievement and creative independent research; open and visionary thinker
At least 10 years of experience in the tire industry with track record of success in bringing to market new products from conception, through research, development, design and approval
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously and work in a cross-functional team environment with strong customer focus
Proficient in basic statistics and Design of Experiment (DOE)
Excellent oral and written communications skills in English

Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of computational chemistry

Education Requirements
PhD in Chemistry
