GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Research Nurse Program Director is responsible for directing and overseeing nurse Fall Care Managers across the various trial sites in a large, multi-center randomized controlled trial of fall injury prevention in older adults (STRIDE, funded by NIA and PCORI). This person will provide a link between the central study team located at BWH, the Intervention Committee and the 10 clinical sites (which each have 8 practice sites) located around the U.S.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



The Nurse Program Director will:

.

1. Serve as the central director of the Fall Care Managers and in this capacity oversee the work of Fall Care Managers.

a. Conduct weekly rounds with the Falls Care Managers so they can work as a team across the sites to problem solve, identify the best clinical strategies, and maintain uniformity and fidelity of their practices.

b. Have regular individual meetings with the FCM to discuss their caseloads, strategies for dealing with challenging patients, reinforce evidence based concepts of fall prevention, provide guidance about assessment or intervention strategies, and thus direct their activities within the context of the STRIDE Study.

c. Assist in approving new FCMs

d. Monitor the implementation of the intervention and the workload of the fall care manager by tracking weekly and monthly indicators

e. Works with the training/self-management committee, physical components committee and intervention committee to refine the intervention and adapt/create written procedures as needed.

f. Participate in Steering Committee, Data Safety and Monitoring and other study meetings to communicate about the intervention and the FCM experiences.

2. Assist with providing input into Fall Care Manager software content and coordinating the exchange of information between the Fall Care Managers using the beta version of this software and other study teams and software developers.

3. Develop training materials and conduct training of new FCMs. QUALIFICATIONS:

BSN required, Masters strongly preferred

At least 5 years prior clinical expertise working with older adults preferred

Prior clinical research management experience preferred Previous work in fall prevention or other care manager roles or work as a coordinator on previous clinical trials
