The Charge Nurse is responsible for directing and overseeing the daily activities of the unit on an assigned shift. The charge nurse functions under the direction of the Nurse Manager and/or Assistant Nurse Manager, and is responsible for using independent judgment in coordinating the overall functions and activities of a nursing unit on a designated shift to assure successful safe delivery of care. Facilitates the direction of personnel/clinical activities of the unit on the designated shift, serving as a resource/support to the staff, physicians, patients, families, and other departments. Is involved in direct patient care, and is expected to routinely take a modified patient assignment. Accountable for implementing and monitoring PI, Customer Service, and Safety and Quality initiatives for designated shift.
Required Minimum Education: Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing preferred, licensure as a registered professional nurse in the State of Georgia; national certification in clinical specialty preferred.
Required Minimum Experience: Minimum two years experience of nursing practice that includes sufficient clinical and leadership experience to ensure competence.
Required Minimum Skills: Ability to read, write and speak the English language: Strong customer service and interpersonal skills: Inter and Intra-departmental coordination of patient care activities: Delegation skills required: Ability to multi-task essential: Ability to function in stressful and emergency situations essential: Strong detail orientation required: Computer skills required: Personal time management skills are required: Compliance with the American Nurses' Association Code of Ethics for Professional Nurses is required: Demonstrates knowledge of and practices with parameters outlined in Georgia Registered Professional Nurse Practice Act.
