The clinical oncology nurse acts as a clinician, educator, consultant, researcher and leader relevant to the needs of the oncology patient and family members, nursing personnel and the healthcare system. The Clinical oncology nurse serves as a clinical resource and expert in oncology and communicates needs and coordinates services among other members of the health care team in order to ensure total quality patient care and improved patient outcomes. The clinical oncology nurse demonstrates knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice, clinical competency and professional development and utilizes the Swanson Theory of Caring and patient/family centered care as the foundation for his/her nursing practice.
One year as an oncology nurse
Associate Degree Nursing
Oncology Certified Nurse Must obtain Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) credential within 2 years of hire.
Bachelor Degree Nursing
