* The operating room (OR) RN has primary responsibility and accountability for the nursing care of patients in the operating room undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures.

* The OR RN develops, coordinates, and implements a plan of care that is patient and outcome focused. The plan of care is made in collaboration with other members of the Perioperative team and is based on patient assessment, knowledge of the procedure and anesthetic plan, physician orders and preferences, application of relevant policies and procedures, and AORN guidelines.

* The OR-RN provides leadership direction and clinical supervision to the surgical technologists, patient care technicians, and other non-licensed staff on the healthcare team. Coordinate and facilitate healthcare services for the patient in other segments of the healthcare delivery system. Provide and coordinate nursing care for the patient in collaboration with the healthcare team.

* The RN is an integral member of the healthcare team, overseeing and participating in patient assessment and the formulation and implementation of the care plan.

EDUCATION
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Associates Degree: Nursing Degree from an accredited program.

PREFERRED EDUCATION
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
Intermediate: Communication, problem-solving, leadership and decision-making skills.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS Applies the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to fulfill the professional role functions of an RN in the operating room including assessment, nursing diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Responsible for knowledge of preoperative requirements including informed consent, history and physical exam, pre-op testing, anesthesia evaluation, NPO and medication guidelines.
EXPERIENCE
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
1 year

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE Two years recent operating room experience or completion or an approved Perioperative training program.
Ambulatory care nursing experience. Primary nursing or case-management experience.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS
MINIMUM LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
At time of hire Current Washington State RN License.

PREFERRED LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR), Advanced, Cardiac, Life Support (ACLS)
