Consulting Nurse Service provides 24x7 coverage (including weekends and holidays).
Primary responsibility of the Consulting Nurse Service (CNS) is to provide telephonic triage and advice that is protocol driven and evidence based to our consumers using the nursing process, CNS RN Performance Standards, the Nursing code of Ethics and GHC policies. The Consulting Nurse facilitates and helps navigate the patient within other segments of the healthcare delivery system. The Consulting nurse is accountable for the provision of telephonic nursing are in collaboration with the healthcare team. This position works every other weekend with the possibility of 2 out of 3 weekends.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
CUSTOMER SERVICE: Demonstrates caring, courtesy and concern in all consumer and colleague interactions. Provide culturally sensitive care including consideration for diverse cultures, ethnicity, language, community, background, life style, and healthcare beliefs.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILL: Demonstrates knowledge and skill in symptom analysis management of acute, episodic, chronic illness, crisis intervention, health teaching/patient education using strong critical thinking skills.
NURSING PROCESS: Uses critical thinking skills and the nursing process to provide an assessment and develops a safe plan of care in conjunction with the patient.
Demonstrates the ability to educate and instruct patients and families in accordance with the nursing plan of care based upon telephonic patient assessment and triage.
Communicates recognition of the patient's and family/significant others' psychosocial, cultural, family and emotional needs in each nurse-patient interaction.
PATIENT SAFETY: Identifies potential or real patient safety issues and takes steps to ensure corrective action. Manages patients in accordance to the CNS standard work, correct protocols and advice for interim care.
DOCUMENTATION AND TECHNOLOGY: Documentation standards using electronic Epic Consulting Nurse Triage Telephone Demonstrates intermediate computer, keyboarding and telephonic skills. Demonstrates sufficient speed and accuracy to maintain service and productivity standards. Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills.
PATIENT EDUCATION: Provides patient and family/significant others education. Collaborates with medical staff and other healthcare providers in primary/specialty care settings when indicated.
QA/QI: Participates in QA/QI activities and promotes continuous quality improvement
Conducts monthly QA self evaluations, making clinical improvements based upon evaluation results.
COMPLIANCE: Demonstrates a working understanding of the compliance requirements related to the work performed, ensuring it is part of the daily standard work process.
Actively participates in all forums for staff or other trainings related to compliance issues.

Hours are: 8:30 am - 3:30 pm - variable days working every other weekend with the possibility of 2 out of 3 weekends.
Education
Minimum Education Requirements
Associates Degree Nursing Degree from an accredited program.

Preferred Education
Bachelors Degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Knowledge/Skills
Minimum Knowledge/Skills Requirements
Intermediate Communication, problem-solving, leadership and decision-making skills.

Experience
Minimum Experience Requirements
1 year

Preferred Experience
Other Experience Ambulatory care nursing experience. Primary nursing or case-management experience.
License/Certifications
Minimum License/Certifications Requirements
At time of hire Current Washington State RN License.
