The Radiation Therapy Technologist is responsible for the delivery of ionizing radiation to treat patients in accordance with the Radiation Oncologists prescription and Simulation instructions. 1. Responsible for the safe and effective execution of the prescribed course of radiotherapy and assessment of images and the performance of diagnostic and interventional procedures. Administers radiation treatments to the patients, demonstrating competence in the following aspects of practice; a. Deliver and monitor delivery of treatment. b. Ensure clear and completed documentation. c. Obtain and evaluate portal images, implement corrective measures as necessary. d. Perform calculations. e. Prepare room and equipment. f. Inform and instruct patient regarding equipment and procedures. g. Ensure informed consent. h. Transfer and position the patient. 2. Simulates treatment portals per Radiation Oncologist instructions using the conventional and/or CT simulator for the purpose of treatment field localization and verification, demonstrating competencies in the following aspects of practice; a. Document precise and legible information for the setup instructions (i.e. setup aides, treatment distance, field size, treatment depth, gantry/collimator angles). b. Assessment of diagnostic studies for field placement evaluation. c. Prepare for and construct an immobilization device as necessary. d. Placement of marks, tattoos and landmark points for setup purposes. e. Single direct, parallel opposed, multi-field isocenteric and extended distance. f. Contour the patient in appropriate plane(s). 3. Performs calculations for monitors units following the procedure set up by Medical Physicist. 4. Construct and mount individualized shielding blocks. Construct lead cut-out as required. 5. Prepare and apply individualized bolus. 6. Perform and records quality assurance procedures as determined by the department policies for the following; a. Treatment Units b. Manual Simulator c. CT Simulator d. Film Processor e. Treatment accessories 7. Maintains timely execution of daily treatment appointment schedule in conjunction with patient transportation and patient care floors. 8. Maintains a clean, tidy and functional work area. Stocks and maintains supplies and laundry in the treatment and simulator rooms. 9. Observes equipment for proper operation and reports any malfunctions to the Director of Technical Services, Physicist and/or Radiation Safety Officer. 10. Assess and respond to patient's physical condition and special needs. Answers patient/family member's questions within professional scope regarding treatment and ensures patients receive educational package at the beginning of treatment. 11. Maintains orderliness and cleanliness in the Radiation Oncology Department with special attention to patient care rooms. 12. Assists in teaching Radiation Therapy to students during their clinical rotation. 13. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.). 14. Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies. Working Conditions: Lifts a minimum of 25 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 25 lbs. and stands a minimum of 4 hours a day. Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 1. High school diploma or equivalent. 2. Graduate of an approved Radiation Therapy Program. Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: 1. 1 to 2 years of experience. Licenses and Certifications Required: 1. American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certification. 2. Radiation Therapy License. Licenses and Certifications Preferred:
