Department: Medical Imaging (Womens Imaging Ctr - 725)
The complex nature of disease processes involves multiple imaging modalities. Although the interdisciplinary team of radiologists, radiologic technologists, radiology nurses, and support staff plays a critical role in the delivery of health care services, the RT performs the radiographic examination that creates the images needed for diagnosis. Radiography integrates scientific knowledge and technical skills with effective patient interaction to provide quality patient care and useful diagnostic information. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES The Radiologic Technologist must demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology and medical terminology. RTs must maintain a high degree of accuracy in radiographic positioning and radiation exposure technique. S/he must maintain knowledge of radiation protection and safety. RTs must prepare for and assist the radiologist in the completion of intricate radiographic examinations. They prepare and administer contrast media in accordance with state and federal regulations. RTs are the primary liaison between patients and radiologists and other members of the support team. They must remain sensitive to the physical and emotional needs of the patient through good communication, patient assessment, patient monitoring and patient care skills. RTs use professional and ethical judgment and critical thinking when performing their duties. Quality improvement and customer service allow the RT to be a responsible member of the healthcare team by continually assessing professional performance. RTs embrace continuing education for optimal patient care, public education and enhanced knowledge and technical competence. REQUIRED LICENSE, REGISTRY OR CERTIFICATION1.Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or registry-eligible. To maintain ARRT certification, a level of expertise and awareness of changes and advances in practice, RTs must complete 24 hours of appropriate continuing education every two (2) years.2.Licensed in Radiologic Technology by the Department of Environmental Protection of the State of New Jersey. Full-time Day shift Associates degree required Certification Required Licensure Required Experience is preferred
