Department Description

Radiology is a specialty that uses imaging techniques, such as X-rays and ultrasound, to diagnose and treat a variety of conditions. At UCSF Medical Center, we offer the full spectrum of techniques, using the most advanced equipment. We perform more than 500,000 procedures annually. In fact, a number of radiology advancements and applications were developed here.

Job Summary

A California licensed technologist who performs safe, diagnostic imaging procedures on all inpatient and outpatient age-specific populations. Diagnostic procedures include, but are not limited to, basic radiographic procedures, portables imaging, operating room, emergency room and fluoroscopy.

Performs various radiographic exams and processes images on various archival systems. Professionally accountable for submitting high-quality images to PACS. Participates in performance improvement activities in the department. Demonstrates excellent customer service to patients. Correctly identifies patients for the procedures performed. Follows Infection Control policies, radiation policies and good body mechanics. Maintains appropriate continuing education credits. Complies with all Medical Center and Department policies and procedures. Requires CRT and California fluoroscopy license.

Per diem employees must work at least two shifts per month to maintain equipment and procedure competencies and per diem eligibility.

The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required.

* Demonstrates an understanding of and adheres to safety and infection control policies and procedures.

* Assumes accountability for improving quality metrics associated with department/unit and meeting organizational/departmental targets.

Work Environment

* Keeps working areas neat, orderly and clutter-free, including the hallways. Adheres to cleaning processes and puts things back where they belong. Removes and reports broken equipment and furniture.

* Picks up and disposes of any litter found throughout entire facility.

* Posts flyers and posters in designated areas only; does not post on walls, doors or windows.

* Knows where the Environment of Care Manual is kept in department; corrects or reports unsafe conditions to the appropriate departments.

* Protects the physical environment and equipment from damage and theft.

Required Qualifications

* Require CRT

* Require CRT Fluoroscopy License

* Graduate of a formal radiology technology-training program in an AMA approved school

* Previous experience in healthcare environment required (usually 3-5 years).

* Solid communication, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills required

* Flexibility in scheduling, ability to rotate shifts, sites and coverage for weekends and holidays

Preferred Qualifications

* Prefer ARRT

* Prefer recent work experience in an acute care setting.

* Prefer BCLS

* Customer service experience highly preferred


* Require CRT

* Require CRT Fluoroscopy License
