Role Overview
Supervises the engineering activity (all disciplines) on a project, or designated portions of a project, for a passenger/freight rail development project.
Coordinates rail infrastructure design with signaling, traction power and other systems.
Evaluates rolling stock requirements for numbers and types of wagons and head-end equipment.
Evaluates wheel/rail interface for compatibility between rolling stock and track work.
Coordinates with multiple global business units to plan rail passenger & freight terminals and related facilities. Has technical responsibilities for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating these assignments.
Supervises the engineering activity on a medium size project or designated portions of a very large or complicated project.

May exercise operational supervision over assigned project engineers.
As directed, manages the complex organizational interactions that evolve from the participation of several Bechtel entities on the project or from client-established relationships with other contractors.
Establishes and maintains access to technical experts in the advanced technologies pertinent to passenger/freight service, rolling stock, yard , and sets up channels of communication to bring this expertise to bear effectively on the engineering effort.
Basic Qualifications
B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, Railroad Engineering, or related field (M.S. a plus).

Leading industry expert - Registered P.E. is preferred.
Minimum 25+ years of railroad engineering, planning, and rail operations.

Knowledgeable in railroad operations (mainline single and double-track, passenger and freight service, classification yards, maintenance).

Capable of proposing relevant line and yard layout as well as train dispatch with associated rolling stock fleet based on high level planning data such as average daily tonnage by commodity, and passenger origin/destination.

Experience in one or more of the following industries:
Mining, Refinery, Heavy Civil, and Rail (passenger and freight).

Candidate should hold active memberships in rail and other industrial related groups/committees.

Must be able to work independently and in group situations.

Familiar with applicable U.S. and International codes and standards.

Highly developed written and oral communications skills.

Requires a broad knowledge of administrative practices.
