JOB DESCRIPTIONSoftware Engineer who builds Applications for users who use them a lot. And enjoy it.
BUILD APPS ON A LARGE SCALE FOR MILLIONS TO USE
You have a great job right now. Churning out useful code. Working with smart colleagues. Solving specific challenges (some more interesting than others). You are getting a solid return from the Computer Science educational investment you made.
Sometimes, though. You find yourself thinking about the end product and the users.
The grass is always greener, I suppose. But, if you have found yourself thinking about how satisfying it might be to fabricate the actual app that sits in the users' hands, then we should speak. There is definitely satisfaction and utility from milking the cow. And undeniable value in processing the milk to transform it into ice cream. Finally, there is an art to building the sundae, putting the cherry on top and proudly presenting the end product to a smiling paying customer.
I'm working on a role that requires the "dairy farm" education and hands-on experience (in our case, its strong Computer Science/OOD/Data Engineering), but it will be applied "in the kitchen and at the table", building useful, logical and hopefully beautifully "delicious" applications that will delight millions of users.
My client runs "day-to-day" as a startup. Flat. Lean. AGILE. But, in reality it is a unique intrapreneurial venture. So, in effect, it's a "best of both worlds" opportunity. The group is in the process of building a modern open source micro service architected Enterprise Scale SaaS product. The platform is largely in place handling persistence, data movement, IDM, business processes, etc. Very cool stuff. For the purposes of my increasingly annoying analogy, the raw milk is largely NODE.JS and REACT.JS (with other stuff like Go, Scala,Ruby, Hadoop, Mongo etc. sprinkled in). The backend platform team resembles the production facilities, which refine these raw agricultural commodities into top quality ingredients.
I am representing the Chef role (as well an Executive Chef / Architect role). Someone, who understands the base ingredients at a fundamental level, in order to combine them in the form of a dish, for which customers will repeatedly return. A chef has to understand the diner's palette and how to satisfy it. But also knows that it is not enough serve a perfectly cooked dish. It has to be delivered quickly, at proper temperature, timed perfectly with other dishes at the same table. It must also look incredibly appealing. All of this in an effort to differentiate your kitchen from those offered by competing restaurants. As a rapid application builder, your job will be to choose from and demand new services, made available through the platform, in order to build highly configurable applications for literally tens of millions of end-users. It is a chance to sit in the middle of Software Engineering, Product and UX/UI, right in the center, perfectly incorporating ingredients into compelling applications.
Best part Your experience and technical education already suffice for our version of "culinary school".
The most recent person we placed into this role was pushing product within her first week! The place is all about velocity! It's exciting . It's modern. It's real (we know because we've been successfully partnered with the product effort for years). It's in a great Manhattan neighborhood. It's a career changer. It's really cool! Get it Ice Cream Ughh.
When we speak, I swear I'll go light on the cheese that I so liberally applied above!
