PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
McLean-Franciscan Child and Adolescent Mental Health Programs Kennedy Hope Academy (KHA) is a residential school utilizing applied behavior analysis (ABA) and positive behavioral supports (PBS) to provide state-of-the-art treatment to students, ages 5-21, who have challenging behaviors, autistic spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities, neurological disorders and/or concurrent psychiatric illnesses. KHA offers a year-round specialized education program as well as psychopharmacology, speech and occupational therapy and community-based recreation opportunities.
SUMMARY
The Recreational-Vocational Activity Leader position is responsible for developing and implementing activities to address social skill development and to teach students skills via individual and small group meetings in the domains of pre-vocational/vocational, activities of daily living, independent and cooperative leisure and safety or self preservation skills. This position requires a use variety of techniques, including the principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA) and positive behavior supports (PBS), to expose our students to activities such as arts and crafts, animals, nature, sports, games, dance and movement, music, and community outings. Students will practice social skills in these meetings and will also be encouraged to transfer or generalize these skills into the community.
In addition, this position will be responsible for planning advanced scheduled activities within the community that are age appropriate. The frequency, duration, and quality of activities and community integration must consistently be individualized and evaluated.
Other responsibilities include monitoring the Outing Tracker form documentation, IEP objective implementation, and data collection.
Meeting attendance, creating a monthly calendar of community events for each student, planning daily in-house activities as well as behavior plan implementation is required.
This position is expected to build contacts and resources within the community that can benefit our students. This position is responsible for ensuring that activities that are created build confidence and independence so that students can enjoy a greater quality of life.
Direct care, van driving and all other duties as assigned.
