Position Summary
In this position, the Registered Nurse has primary responsibility and accountability for the nursing care and safety of patients who are experiencing operative and other invasive procedures.
CN III is the competent level of nursing practice and is the minimal level of performance and experience required for continued employment at St. Vincent Healthcare. This nurse demonstrates skills in interpersonal relationships, critical thinking and efficiency, serves as a resource to students and new employees, and is involved in the qualify improvement process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operating Environment
Collaborates with the Pre-operative care RN to assess the holistic patient needs and procedure requirements and performs ongoing assessments and documents changes from base line status.
Develops, implements and communicates a plan of care that prescribes the nursing actions and priorities to achieve the patient plan of care goals.
Responds to comfort needs of the patient and patient/family requests for health information
Uses principles of aseptic practice in varying situations and monitors compliance within the surgical team. Initiates corrective action when breaks in techniques occur.
Clinical Knowledge and Decision-Making Ability
Integrates and internalizes theoretical knowledge into clinical expertise
Develops focused assessment and critical thinking skills and utilizes evidence-based research to guide practice and enhance positive patient outcomes.
Develops and modifies individualized plans of care; communicates changes in the plan of care to the patient and healthcare team.
Collaboration and Professional Responsibility
Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing care and participates in individual and collective activities to improve patient care and the healthcare environment.
Participates in the advancement of the nursing profession through contributions to practice, education, administration, and research.
Education, Experience and Licensure/Certification Requirements Requirements are
representative of the minimum level of knowledge, skills and/or abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position
Current Montana Registered Nurse licensure
Certification in Basic Life Support
Prior Operating Room experience, critical care experience or one year Medical/Surgical Nursing Unit experience preferred
Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically within a multi-functional team
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to successfully function in a fast paced, service oriented environment
Experience in understanding and usage of computers, including the Microsoft Office Suite, as well as the ability to learn applications relevant to the position Full Time (36-40 hrs/week) Day
