Department Description

Opening in July 2016 the Surgical High Acuity unit is a 9 bed unit that will provide care to an adult patient population with complex nursing needs.

The target population is high acuity general medical / surgical patients requiring more frequent or more complex nursing assessments and interventions, respiratory management and cardiac monitoring including telemetry and oxygen level monitoring capability.

The exposure to the diverse patient populations and varied levels of complexity in care provides nurses the ability to developing and hone keen assessment skills. The unit is fast paced and highly rewarding with many hands on learning opportunities available on a daily basis.

Job Summary

* Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care

* Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams

* Carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required

* Performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision

* Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team

This position requires the flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations

Required Qualifications

* Minimum two years of recent Transitional Care/Step-Down and/or two years of medical surgical ICU clinical RN experience required within the last two years

* Telemetry/cardiac monitoring proficiency

* Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California

* Active American Heart Association CPR certification

* Active American Heart Association ACLS certification

* This position requires the flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations

Preferred Qualifications

* BSN

* Progressive Care Specialty Certification-PCCN

Licensure/Certification

* Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California

* Active American Heart Association CPR certification

* Active American Heart Association ACLS certification
